AI4Meta Development Framework

AI4Meta is developed as a research operating system for evidence synthesis, not as a single AI chatbot attached to a review workflow. The app combines a structured systematic-review/meta-analysis workspace with a governed multi-agent runtime that can read project state, invoke permitted research tools, preserve provenance, and produce reviewable outputs.

Framework layers

  1. Research workflow layer — projects, modules, protocols, papers, screening, extraction, analysis, reporting, content analysis, and provenance are first-class product objects.
  2. Agent orchestration layer — the chatbot is the visible orchestrator surface for skills, tools, model choice, thinking depth, sessions, scheduled jobs, and runtime events.
  3. Governance and reproducibility layer — agent runs preserve inputs, context snapshots, selected models/tools, events, outputs, and review status.
  4. Scalable runtime layer — FastAPI, Postgres, Redis, PgBouncer, and worker queues support durable long-running research jobs outside the request/response path.
  5. User-facing workspace layer — React/Next.js presents the project workspace, chatbot panel, tool drawer, docs, settings, admin views, and live job feedback.

OpenClaw and Hermes influence

OpenClaw provides a model for assistant ergonomics: tools, skills, sessions, proactive work, and subagents. Hermes contributes agent-runtime product patterns such as progressive skill disclosure, durable searchable sessions, frozen prompt context, context compression, provider/tool registries, scheduled skill-backed jobs, observable execution, and reviewable procedural-memory proposals.

AI4Meta adapts these ideas into a server-grade research platform: durable state lives in Postgres, Redis is used for operational coordination, tools are permission-gated, and agent-created workflow changes require review instead of silent self-modification.

How AI4Meta is different from existing AI-aided meta-analysis apps

Most AI-aided evidence-synthesis products fit one of three patterns:

  • Chat over documents — users ask questions about papers or PDFs, but outputs remain loosely connected to the formal review workflow.
  • Point automation — one task is automated, such as search, screening, extraction, risk-of-bias hints, or manuscript drafting.
  • Black-box AI workflow — recommendations are shown without enough visibility into prompt context, tool routing, model choice, intermediate events, or reproducibility records.

AI4Meta treats AI as a governed research runtime. Agent actions are project-native, auditable, permission-aware, workflow-aware, runtime-observable, interruptible, scalable, model/provider-flexible, and designed for a reviewed learning loop.

In short: existing AI-aided meta-analysis apps usually add AI features to a review workflow; AI4Meta is building the review workflow and the AI runtime as one governed, reproducible system.
